Abstract
Within the combinatory poetry, the palindrome reactivates the debates regarding the pertinence of the interpretative theories of translation. In the Russian literature the palindrome has been known ever since the 17th century. It began to draw the specialists’ attention at the same time as the experiments of the Russian futurists, especially those of Velimir Hlebnikov. Starting from certain theoretical patterns, the present paper synthesises the reasons why the palindrome is deemed to be an example of untranslatability and illustrates some non-equivalence situations by text excerpts from the modern Russian poetry. Moreover, it tries to establish whether the palindrome is a completely aleatory composition aiming at poetic entertainment, or a complex structure imposing a hermeneutic act the translator cannot ignore in the transposition process.
Résumé
Dans le cadre de la poésie combinatoire, le palindrome réactive les polémiques concernant la pertinence des théories interprétatives de la traduction. Dans la littérature russe, le palindrome est connu dès le 17e siècle. Il a commencé à attirer l’attention des spécialistes lors des expériences des futuristes russes, surtout de Velimir Hlebnikov. En partant de certain modèles théoriques, dans l’étude présente nous avons synthétisé les arguments pour lesquels le palindrome est un cas d’intraductibilité et nous avons exemplifié certaines situations de non-équivalence par des corpus de textes de la poésie russe moderniste. Aussi, nous avons essayé d’établir si le palindrome est une composition complètement aléatoire, qui a comme rôle le divertissement poétique, ou une structure complexe qui impose un acte herméneutique que le traducteur ne peut pas ignorer dans le processus de transposition.
Rezumat
În cadrul poeziei combinatorii, palindromul reactivează polemicile cu privire la pertinenţa teoriilor interpretative ale traducerii. În literatura rusă palindromul este cunoscut din secolul al XVII-lea. El a început să atragă atenţia specialiştilor odată cu experimentele futuriştilor ruşi, mai ales ale lui Velimir Hlebnikov. Pornind de la anumite modele teoretice, în prezentul studiu am sintetizat argumentele pentru care palindromul reprezintă un caz de intraductibilitate şi am exemplificat unele situaţii de nonechivalenţă prin corpusuri de texte din lirica rusă modernistă. De asemenea, am încercat să stabilim dacă palindromul este o compoziţie complet aleatorie, care are ca rol divertismentul poetic, sau o structură complexă ce impune un act hermeneutic pe care traducătorul nu-l poate ignora în procesul de transpunere.
