Romanian cultural expansions into the West and the rest of the world have represented

complex and pressing issues throughout the twentieth and now the twenty-first century. Points of

connection have been made both by immigrant and by “travelling” cultural actors, the diverse

explorers of a world of expanding borders and identities. Where do these people belong and how is

their work to be understood? These are just part of the questions behind this short and subjective

incursion into the “outside”.
