Abstract
Since there is no perfect overlap between tongues, translation can be viewed as an attempt, more or less successful, to reproduce the meaning of a text, or a process of re-semantisation, i.e. a new actualization of the message, of the intrinsic content of discourse, by means of new signs. Focusing on the kinetics of the signified of the noun, in some passages taken from a novel by Patricia Grace, will reveal the varying treatment, in English and in French, of the extensity of the noun by determiners, responsible for the effects of discourse. This study will also demonstrate that the material operative genesis or the relationship between the sayable and the uttered may be altered, and that the entireness of the process potentiality/effect or representation/expression may be questioned.
Résumé
Le problème de la traduction de l’anglais vers le français de l’extensité nominale dans un texte littéraire.
En l’absence de parallélisme parfait entre les langues, la traduction peut être considérée comme une tentative plus ou moins réussie de reproduire le sens d’un texte, un processus de re-sémantisation, autrement dit une re-actualisation du message, du contenu inhérent à un discours, par l’intermédiaire de nouveaux signes. En étudiant la cinétique du signifié nominal dans quelques passages tirés d’un roman de Patricia Grace, traduit en français, nous nous apercevrons que le traitement variable en anglais et en français de l’extensité du nom par les déterminants, responsables d’effets de sens en discours, suffit à altérer la genèse opérative matérielle ou la relation dicible/dit, à remettre en cause l’entier du procès puissance/effet ou représentation/expression.

Problema traducerii din engleză în franceză a extensiei nominale în textele literare.
În absența paralelismului perfect între limbi, traducerea poate fi considerată ca o tentativă mai mult sau mai puțin reușită de a reproduce sensul unui text, un proces de resemantizare, altfel spus o reactualizare a mesajului, a conținutului inerent unui discurs, prin intermediul noilor semne. Studiind cinetica semnificatului nominal în câteva pasaje extrase dintr-un roman de Patricia Grace, tradus în franceză, ne-am dat seama că tratarea variabilă, în engleză și în franceză, a extensiei substantivului prin determinanți, responsabili pentru efecte de sens și de discurs, este suficientă pentru a altera geneza operativă materială sau relația între ceea ce poate fi spus și ceea ce e spus, pentru a repune în discuție întregul proces putere / efect sau reprezentare / expresie.
