Abstract
The Megleno-Romanians, who constitute a separate branch of the Latin-speaking peoples of Eastern Europe, originated in northern Greece. They emigrated to Romania at the start of the twentieth century. From a cultural perspective, the Megleno-Romanians are to be distinguished from other neighbouring ethnic populations on the basis of their dialect, religion, and history. The Megleno-Romanians’ characteristic modes of thought and action distinguish them from the Aromanians. Meanwhile their creative instinct has manifested itself in artistic productions of no little originality, productions which are assured a place within the national cultural heritage. Our study of authentic Megleno-Romanian songs has led us the conclusion that the Megleno-Romanian repertoire in the village of Cerna is, to a very large extent, composed in their own dialect. This finding leads us to believe that there has always existed within the family context a pure, Megleno-Romanian repertoire which has survived and developed through oral transmission.
Résumé
En tant que partie distincte de la latinité orientale, les Mégléno-Roumains sont originaires du nord de la Grèce. Au début du XXe siècle ils ont émigré vers la Roumanie. Les Mégléno-Roumains se distinguent culturellement des autres groupes ethniques de la région par leur dialecte, religion et histoire. Leur manière spécifique de penser et agir les sépare des Aroumains et leur sensibilité créatrice a engendré des œuvres artistiques d’une originalité évidente ce qui a fixé leur place dans le patrimoine des valeurs culturelles nationales. L’intérêt que nous portons aux chansons mégléno-roumaines authentiques nous a permis de constater que chez le groupe ethnique de la commune de Cerna il y a aujourd’hui un répertoire majoritaire dans le dialecte. Cet aspect nous montre que dans les milieux familiaux il y a eu depuis toujours un répertoire mégléno-roumain pur transmis par voie orale jusqu’a présent.
Rezumat
Parte distinctă a latinităţii orientale, meglenoromânii sunt originari din nordul Greciei. La începutul secolului XX ei au imigrat în România. Meglenoromânii se diferenţiază din punct de vedere cultural de celelalte etnii conlocuitoare prin dialect, religie şi istorie. Modul specific de a gândi şi acţiona al meglenoromânilor îi separă de aromâni, sensibilitatea lor creatoare a dat naştere unor realizări artistice de o certă originalitate, fixând locul acestora în categoria valorilor culturale naţionale. Interesul nostru faţă de cântecele propriu-zise meglenoromâne ne-a oferit posibilitatea de a constata că la grupul etnic din comuna Cerna există astăzi un repertoriu majoritar în dialect. Acest aspect ne indică faptul că în mediul familial a existat întotdeauna un repertoriu pur meglenoromân, ce s-a propagat pe cale orală până în prezent.
