Abstract
In this article we consider two highly representative writers for Romanian literature. Although their writings were contemporary, Hortensia Papadat Bengescu was always associated with the time of apparent modernization of Romanian interwar literature, while Sadoveanu was seen as an exponent of traditionalism in Romanian literature. The paper builds on the hypothesis that, in fact, this is a simplistic and not always justified view. Both authors belong to the time of modernization of our literature, only they use different methods, themes, languages and literary strategies. In addition, hastily assigning “roles and places” may even lead to an erroneous reception of the aesthetic value of the analyzed writings.
Rezumat
Avem în vedere, în acest articol, doi scriitori de înaltă reprezentativitate pentru literatura română. Deşi scrierile lor sunt contemporane, Hortensia Papadat Bengescu a fost mai mereu asociată cu momentul modernizării evidente a literaturii interbelice româneşti, în vreme ce Mihail Sadoveanu a fost perceput ca un exponent al tradiţionalismului în literatura română. Pornim de la ipoteza că, în fapt, aceasta este o viziune simplistă şi nu întotdeauna îndreptăţită. Ambii autori aparţin momentului modernizării literaturii noastre, doar că fiecare dintre ei recurge la alte procedee, teme, limbaje şi strategii literare. În plus, o grăbită atribuire de „roluri şi locuri” celor doi autori poate duce chiar la o eronată receptare a valorii estetice a scrierilor analizate.
