Abstract:
Throughout its existence, Europe has been subject to cultural pressures exerted by contact civilizations. Cultural identities, which are, at the same time, civilization identities, determine cohesion and disintegration structures, as well as conflicts in a world that is currently in a post-cold war period. Starting from the ideas Samuel Huntington’s ideas on cultural incompatibilities and the ideological or even armed conflicts they can generate, we regard culture as a bivalent symbol, which simultaneously translates centrifugal and centripetal tendencies that shape humanity’s sociocultural existence.
