Abstract
Andreas Birkner (1911-1998) is one of the five Romanian German-language authors which were publicly condemned in the Brașov writers’ process (1959). In his stories and novels, he presents multiple facets of the detention years. The present study is centered on the analysis of the story Die Katzengeschichte [Cats’ Tale], which literary transfigures the author’s traumatic experiences. It describes the everyday life in a village consisting of huts built of mud, characterized by harsh living conditions and psychological consumption at the highest level. The trauma of the concentration camp is rendered by selecting the most appropriate linguistic and stylistic means. The analyzed story focuses on a concrete space with historical significance. Based on his own experience, the author retrospectively constructs a fictional literary space bearing the characteristics of the experienced space. The latter overlaps the spatial fictional model.
Zusammenfassung
Andreas Birkner (1911–1998) gehört zu den fünf rumäniendeutschen Autoren, die im Kronstädter Schriftstellerprozess politisch verurteilt worden sind. In seiner Prosa, Erzählungen und Romane, werden seine Gefängnisjahre vielfach verarbeitet. Die vorliegende Arbeit fokussiert sich auf die Analyse von Birkners Erzählung Die Katzengeschichte, die die traumatischen Erfahrungen des Autors in einem Zwangsaufenthaltsort literarisch verarbeitet. Die Erzählung schildert den Alltag im Lehmhüttendorf, der durch karge Lebensbedingungen und höchste psychologische Belastung gekennzeichnet ist. Das Lagertrauma wird durch die treffende Auswahl sprachlicher Mittel psychologisch aufgearbeitet. Die analysierte Erzählung thematisiert einen konkreten Raum mit historischer Bedeutung. Der Autor geht von eigenen Erlebnissen aus und konstruiert rückblickend einen literarisch fiktiven Raum, der die Eigenschaften des erlebten Raumes aufweist, wobei sich die Raumerfahrung mit dem fiktionalen Raumentwurf deckt.
Rezumat
Andreas Birkner (1911-1998) este unul dintre cei cinci autori de expresie germană din România care au fost condamnaţi politic în procesul scriitorilor din Braşov (1959). In povestirile şi romanele sale tratează multiple faţete ale anilor de detenţie. Prezentul studiu este centrat pe analiza povestirii Die Katzengeschichte, care prelucrează literar experienţe traumatice ale autorului. Povestire descrie cotidianul dintr-un sat format din colibe de chirpici, caracterizat prin condiţii de viaţă aspre şi un consum psihologic la cel mai înalt nivel. Trauma lagerului este redată prin selectarea celor mai adecvate mijloace lingvistice şi stilistice. Povestirea analizată tematizează un spaţiu concret cu semnificaţie istorică. Pornind de la trăiri proprii, autorul construieşte în retrospectivă un spaţiu literar fiktiv care deţine caracteristicile spaţiul trăit. Acesta din urmă se suprapune modelui spaţial ficţional.
